Settling In....

We're settling in to life at the new place. Carter's loving it and Isla's babbling like a swift flowing brook over a small waterfall.

Susan gave Carter two huge pillows with trains on them and Carter immediately drug them out into the center of the house so he could "sleep" on them. He pushed them together and made a comfy bed (until they slid apart from each other.... he wasn't very pleased with that.

Susan and I got out for an adult weekend at an old coworker of Susan's wedding in wine country (Sonoma). The wedding was a blast and we had a great time letting loose and not having to worry about rushing home to relieve the babysitter. The nicest part of the whole weekend was sleeping in until 9:00 on Sunday! .I didn't realize that at some point in my life that sleeping in would be the highlight of my day

I know... I know... It's been a long time.

Yes, I know that I have fallen off on my posting... I have lots of excuses:
  1. The house we were renting was in foreclosure and we had to find a new house.
  2. We moved at the end of August (THANKS BOPPA, JOHN, AND JOSH)
  3. I started a new teaching job teaching High Schoolers both AP Environmental Science (the motivated smart kids) and Earth Science (the not-so-motivated, I hate school kind of kids).
  4. Susan started working three days a week again from home.

Well now that doesn't sound like that many excuses...

I'll stop hiding behind my excuses and I'll just start getting some posts up.

Isla's Baptism

Isla was baptised at the 10:30 service at 2nd Presbyterian Church in Carlisle Pennsylvania. She fussed a bit before, fussed a bit more when she had water dribbled on her head, and then promptly fell asleep in daddy's arms when we returned to the pew.

Aquatics in Pennsylvania

We're on vacation in PA and grandma and grandpa blew up a pool for Carter and he's loving it! Elsa brought her parents Sara and Errol over to play and Isla has been chillin poolside being snuggled by Aunt Julie and Sara.

It's all happening at the ZOO!

Today was ZOO day! Thanks to Boppa for snapping a picture of the whole family.

We loaded the munchkins up in the car and met Boppa at the Zoo.

Carter had a blast! On the way to the Zoo he kept saying that he wanted to "skip the elephants" although his S's aren't very pronounced so it sounded more like "kip the elephants". Once he was safely in his stroller, behind a metal grate, behind a moat, and 90 feet away from the elephants he actually enjoyed himself!

We were just in time to catch the Winged Wonders Bird show which was fantastic. Birds were appearing out of nowhere and swooping right over our heads.

After the show Carter got up close and personal with a Golden Eagle.

Carter donated $1 to the bird cleaning efforts in the gulf by handing a dollar bill to an African white necked raven.

Carter and Susan even got a chance to be an amateur paleontologist at the dino dig uncovering fossilized bones.

Carter came home, ate a whiney lunch because he was so tired, and he's currently dreaming about elephants, tigers, and capybaras.

Carter's First Swimming Lessons

Carter had his first swimming lessons with Ann Buchanan a few weeks ago. There were definitely tears the first day, and the second, third, fourth, and the fifth. The good news was that the tears decreased dramatically each day and he got so much more comfortable in the water.

By the third day he was comfortable with going underwater to pick up the "sharks". Now when we swim anything at the bottom of the pool (i.e. kitchen spoon) is called a shark and he loves to go down and grab them.

By the end of the week he would half heartedly jump off of the edge of the pool to Ann's waiting arms. She was great with him! Always giving him reassurance and lots of hugs.

Isla even came along to cheer her brother on. Well she cheered him on by sleeping and eating but... to each their own!
